A note about
family stay in general: The month of July is the month
where hundreds of students from Europe and the United States
converge to study in the numerous language schools in Salamanca.
The demand for student housing with families during this time is
enormous. Therefore, students may encounter families where
both parents work, or where there is only one adult in the home.
Since many of the families make their homes available
for income purposes, they rent every room available.
About our
families: We make every effort to find the best homes for
our participants. Most of the families we choose have
provided housing for students for many years. They are the
same type of family other schools and universities in Salamanca
provide. However, students should be aware that times have
changed. The changes families in the U.S. have experienced are
the changes taking place in Spain - one parent families, or both
parents working are becoming common occurrences.
Family
accommodations are based on double occupancy. The student can
expect middle income homes providing the essential needs. The
diet is Spanish food. Breakfast is light consisting of coffee
and bread/pastry. Lunch is the main meal of the day and dinner
is light. Because most of the cities and towns in Spain are
centuries old, almost all the people live in "pisos"
(apartments). The families are 10 to 35 minutes
walking distance from the center of town. Families provide
laundry service optionally. The rate is approximately $15 per
week. |
